For this project we were required to make a maze with little other constraints. I knew I wanted mine to be an interesting shape, not just a square or circle. So I thought and came across the idea of it being the shape of a state. I couldn't pick a state like Alaska that was too complicated or a state like Colorado that didn't have a recognizable shape. I picked Montana because it was a good balance between the two, and I have a friend that loves Montana so I could give the maze to her as a present.
Step by Step
I started by doing a rough draft outline of the state as seen below.
Next I needed to cut the shape out and add the paths of the maze. This took a very long time to get right, and I eventually decided I didn't care about the complexity of the maze just as long as it looked nice, and all the paths and outlines were equal sizes. The end result was a very simple maze with little room for error.
Next I needed to extrude the paths and move it to Fusion 360. I couldn't get the diagonal lines quite right so I scrapped the idea and went with three straight lines.
Once I got my project to Fusion 360 I needed to run a 3-D contour of my project to get it set up for the machine. I also needed to set up the tool I would use, and set the XYZ coordinates.
Finally I saved the project as a G code to a flash drive and printed it. Below is it printing.
Summary
Overall I learned how to use Inventor much better and got my first introduction to Fusion 360, which is supposed to be the program of the future; working more like google drive. I am happy with the result I think it looks really nice.
